Points to Note
Rating
Observe the crew's rating ....especially in relation to the other crews. The rate allows them to execute the stroke cycle efficiently and to deliver the maximum potential for each stroke. As a result they travel a greater distance per stroke than the other teams.
Hard Catch
Note how the aggression starts with the catch and driving the paddle down with the top hand.
Powerful Drive
The Drive phase is the fastest and most powerful part of the stroke. Note the acceleration of the stroke through the drive phase by applying top hand drive down and sitting up. There is no pulling action with the bottom hand. It only stabilises the paddle during the stroke.
Synchronisation
Note how well synchronised the crew is at the catch. Slowed down, they have small differences in the exit and recovery phases, but they are always together at the end of the recovery phase and perfectly synchronised at the catch.
It doesn't matter how much individual strength and power each paddler has, if it can't be delivered together then the power isn't transferred efficiently.
Effort
Note the honesty of effort from each crew member. Each one is fighting for breath at the finish. This crew spend a lot of time together and defy the Ringelmann effect.
